One of the reference desk interactions today:
Student: I'm looking for a biology book. I think it has a picture of a flower on it.
Me: We have a lot of books at this library. Can you be more specific?
Student: I think it's a periwinkle.
Well, I gotta hand it to her, that certainly was more specific!

ReplyDeleteThe student having said that, is there an online tool that allows one to find a book by itself cover art and genre? For example:
GENRE: Biology COVER ART: Flower (periwinkle).
Wouldn't that be a neat tool to have? Some people are more visual than textual and may remember the cover art better than the book title or author.
Rofucius is big on multiple intelligences, it seems. Reasonable idea. Sometimes I'd like to categorize books that way. If you're good at organizing your personal library for decorating effect, it might not be a bad idea! I like periwinkle flowers - like the blue flower of the Romantic movement!
